The N. C. Wildlife Resources Commission has announced the dates for public hearings on changing regulations on hunting, fishing, land and water access, and wildlife management.

The purpose of the hearings is to provide people with the opportunity to give their opinions during a 60-day comment period that will affect the publication of the N.C. Inland Fishing, Hunting and Trapping Digest 2022-2023.

“The proposals in this document reflect public, staff, and commissioner input,” said Monty Crump, chairman for the NCWRC.

In February 2022, commissioners will make final decisions about regulations after taking into consideration the comments from staff and the public. The new guidelines will then be published in the new digest that will be available on Aug. 1, 2022.

You do not have to be a licensed hunter, trapper or fisherman to participate. All hearings will begin at 7 p.m., and participants are asked to review the public hearing booklet. A form is provided on the back to write down their suggestions. Commissioners will ask for these during the hearing.

The schedule and locations are as follows:

Jan. 11, the coastal region hearing will take place at the Craven County Courthouse in New Bern.

Jan. 13, the piedmont region hearing will be at the Southwest Randolph High School auditorium in Asheboro.

Jan. 18, the mountain region hearing will be at the McDowell Technical Community College in the Cedar Building in Marion.

On Jan. 20, there will be an online virtual hearing for everyone. You can register for the meeting at www.ncwildlife.org/proposed-regulations.
