WPD investigating shots fired calls

One home was struck by gunfire in Whiteville Jan. 8 while Whiteville Police Officers were investigating a possible break-in – after another shots fired call.

Lt. Andre Jackson of the WPD said officers were called to Stanley Street at approximately 2:40 a.m. when someone called 911 about hearing gunfire. No shell casings, damage, vehicles or shell casings were found.

Officers were at Stanley Street when a woman called 911 to reporta possible break-in attempt on West Williamson Street. Porsha Hardee told responding offiers that she heard someone trying to enter her back door. Officers checked the area, but found no evidence or suspects.

While they were at the Williamson street home, Jackson said, officers were called to 413 Burkhead Street after a home was struck by gunfire. They found three bullet holes in the home, and 18 empty casings on Maxwell Street.

No one was injured in the incidents, and the investigation is continuing.
