A Columbus County narcotics officer is recovering after a suspect allegedly used his vehicle as a weapon.

Duane Henderson Manning, 55, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, resisting an officer, drug paraphernalia, felony possession of cocaine, and simple possession of opiates. His address was listed as 5023 Sidney cherry Grove Rd., Tabor City.

The sheriff’s office reported that Manning was being pulled over by the narcotics unit when he allegedly tried to hit the officers’ vehicle. He was stopped, but before he could be removed from the Chevrolet Blazer, Manning tried to flee, the report said, and he struck one of the arresting detectives, who sustained minor injuries.

Manning was finally stopped and taken into custody. His bond was set at $52,000 secured.
