One man was jailed after a shootout on Whitehall Road Extension Friday.

Karsten Maurice Powell, 52, of 125 Stabley St., Whiteville, was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver methamphetamine, trafficking in opiates, possession of a firearm by a felon, resisting an officer and drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $26,000.

The sheriff’s office reported that deputies were called to the area of Carver Moore Road and Whitehall Road Extension around 10:15 p.m. Friday after a report of someone shooting at vehicles. When deputies arrived on scene, they saw Powell running from a home on Whitehall into a wooded area.

The deputies pursued Powell into the woods, where they found him behind a barbed wire fence. Powell was allegedly carrying two loaded shotguns, drug paraphernalia, digital scales, tablets, and a powder suspected to be methamphetamine.

Powell had several minor wounds from shotgun pellets, the report noted. He was treated at Columbus Regional and arrested on his discharge. The case is still under investigation.
