A Murrell’s Inlet man is being sought after allegedly claiming to be an attorney, bilking clients of thousands of dollars in the process.

Jon E. James, 35, is wanted by the Brunswick  County Sheriff’s Office. James is alleged to have claimed to be a lawyer in Brunswick, Horry and other counties. The BCSO said James collected “thousands” of dollar from multiple clients for legal services that he did not provide.

James is not licensed to practice law, the BCSO said. He currently has several outstanding warrants in Brunswick County for obtaining property by false pretense and practicing law without a license.

Anyone with information about James whereabouts, or a court case he may have claimed to handle, is asked to call 910.253.2777 in Brunswick County. Incidents in other counties should be reported to local law enforcement.
