Purple was the color of choice at Elizabeth Brinkley Park at Lake Waccamaw on Saturday. Friends, family, and community members came out in support for the Conquer Chiari Walk with Christy Lewis Harrelson.
Harrelson was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation in October of 2021, and though it’s been a tough year, she’s decided not to let the disease define her. Instead, she’s raising money for research and bringing awareness to Chiari.
“I couldn’t have made it through this year without the love and support you all have shown me. About 90 percent of you here have been with me every step of the way,” expressed a tearful Harrelson as she addressed the crowd before the walk lineup.
The day began with a cornhole tournament where the 2-player winning team received $80 each. The Conquer Chiari Walk started at 11:15 a.m., followed by a light lunch, and ended with a silent auction with donations from local businesses and individuals.
