Name Change Earns Extra Charge

Lightbar on a car

Changing names didn’t help a narcotics suspect Tuesday.

Vickey Lynn Huggins, 46, was charged with felony cocaine possession, drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer, according to detention center records. Her bond was set at $10,000. She gave her address as 6862 Hwy. 66, Loris.

She was a passenger in a car driven by Ascension Mancio. The sheriff’s office reported that the couple pulled up to a traffic check on Cox Town Road, and a drug-sniffing dog indicated the presence of narcotics. Cocaine, needles and an open bottle of alcohol were found in the vehicle, the report said.

When she was questioned, Huggins allegedly gave deputies her mother’s name, although Huggins’ wallet was in the door pocket of the vehicle.

As Huggins was being processed – under her mother’s name — at the sheriff’s office, her mother called and told deputies Huggins’ true identity. She was then charged with an additional count of resisting an officer.
