The Columbus Baptist Association is an organization that was founded right here in Columbus County. The CBA is well known for their Backpack for Buddies ministry, a program geared toward feeding children over the weekend who may not otherwise get a meal again until Monday morning at school, and for their annual Christmas Toy Store.
The Toy Store is an event held every holiday season to help parents and grandparents to afford to buy gifts for their children and grandchildren. The organization shops for toys, and then sells them to guardians referred to the CBA for dimes on the dollar.
The CBA will have their Toy Store Golf Tournament at the Land-O-Lakes Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 9. The morning round will begin with registration at 8:00 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The afternoon round will have registration at 12:30 p.m. with a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start. A BBQ lunch will be served from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The cost is just $240 per 4-man team ($60 per player). A total of 22 teams per round are needed, and spots are still available.
You can also be a corporate sponsor for $500 which will include your name on the corporate banner and one team entry for either a morning or afternoon round. Holes can be sponsored for $100 each in memory of a loved one, your business, or just to support the ministry.
Volunteers are also needed to work the day of the golf tournament. Six people can help from 7:45-10:00 a.m., six others from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., and the last round of volunteers will come into play from 12:30-2:00 p.m. If you can volunteer, please call the CBA office with your name, shift preferred, and your contact phone number.
The CBA can be reached at 910.642.2155, and the office is located at 205 South Thompson Street in Whiteville. They can also be contacted via the Columbus Baptist Association Facebook page.
