Southern Farm Days Opens with Big Crowds

Farm Days Blacksmithj
A blacksmith demonstrates how to craft a tool. The tractor behind him is powered by steam, not gasoline or diesel, and is more than 115 years old.

Southern Farm Days opened at the Lake Waccamaw Boys and Girls Home today.

Friday is always student day at the event, but there were plenty of grownups exploring the displays, browsing the antique swap shop, enjoying  festival food and more as the annual gathering kicked off.

Sponsored by the Cape Fear Farm Heritage Association, Southern Farm Days is now in its 14h year. Gates open at 8 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday. Admission is $10, with active duty military and children and 11 and free.
