Eddie Beck has been named the new superintendent of Columbus County Schools.
Beck has served as assistant superintendent for the system since 2023, when Jonathan Williams was hired by the Whiteville City Schools.
Beck will replace Deanna Meadows, who retires in July. Meadows was hired as superintendent in 2019.
Nine applications were received for the post, according to the system.
Beck will be in charge of 5,000 students, 800 employees and 12 campuses, and a $6.5 million annual budget. Beck will also transition into leading the construction of the $52 million school construction project for the east end of the county. That school is being funded through a 95 percent grant from the state, and a five percent match by the county.
