The Waccamaw Siouan STEM Studio will lead a tour of the Green Swamp Nature Preserve Saturday.

The event is free, and includes lunch from Two Natives Smokehouse.

The tour will focus on the area burned by the Pulp Road Fire of 2023. The 15,000 acre fire started form a controlled burn, and swept through a portion of the swamp on the Brunswick-Columbus line. The fire allowed a number of burn-dependent species to flourish.

The tour will focus on the benefits of burning as well as the diversity of the pocosin ecosystem, a specialized habitat that allows the growth of Venus flytraps and other carnivorous plants.
