Columbus County detectives have charged a Bladenboro man with sexually abusing a seven year old child in 2020.

Patrick Corey Fields, 33, was released on a $100,000 secured bond less than two hours after his arrest Wednesday. He is charged with indecent liberties with a child and second degree forcible sex offense, both felonies. His address was listed as Fifth Street, Bladenboro.

Warrants show that fields is alleged to have committed a sex act on the child “who at the time was physically helpless,” the warrant reads.

The warrants were taken out May 1 (Wednesday) and list the date of offense as June 1, 2020. The sheriff’s office said that the child’s mother reached out to investigators after finding out about the alleged abuse. The victim and family were acquainted with the suspect, the report said.

We have reached out to the sheriff’s office for more information.
