The State Bureau of Investigation is on the scene of an officer-involved shooting in Nakina that happened Wednesday.

The four deputies involved in the incident are on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.

Sheriff W.A. “Bill” Roger’s said deputies were called to the home on Seven Creeks Highway (N.C. 905) around 10:45 p.m. to a report of shots fired. The suspect, whose name has not been released, was said to be inside a vehicle.

”When deputies arrived he was in the yard,” Rogers said. “As they approached him, shots were fired.”

Law enforcement provided emergency first aid while EMS was en route, Rogers said, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

”We secured the scene and called in the SBI and (District Attorney) Jon David,” Rogers said. “We want a thorough and neutral investigation into this.”

CCN has reached out to the SBI for additional information.
