A Gaston Sellers Road woman was killed in a two car wreck on U.S. 701 Monday evening. Betty Stevens, age 74, died when Shavonna Vereen of Pine Circle Drive rear ended the Stevens vehicle at a high rate of speed.
The bill prohibiting graphic depictions of sexual activity in public school libraries was passed by the state house Wednesday. House Bill 636 would ban books with graphic written or illustrated sex, or that have sex as a main theme.
Law enforcement agencies across the state will be paying extra attention to speeding drivers through April 20. The “Speed A Little. Lose A Lot.” initiative is one of several annual joint campaigns to curb reckless driving. The campaign emphasizes that even a small increase in speed significantly increases the risk of severe or fatal crashes.
