Elizabeth (Cartrette) Branson

June 27, 1937 ~ April 18, 2025 (age 87)

It is with great sadness that our beloved, Elizabeth Cartrette Branson, 87 of Chadbourn departed this earth peacefully in her home, surrounded by loved ones on Good Friday, April 18, 2025 after an extended battle with dementia.

Elizabeth attended Williams Township School and enjoyed a long career working for the late Dr William Alexander Greene and the late Dr John Munroe.  She will be remembered as one of strong will and unwavering determination and one who always balanced her checkbook to the penny (or she was going to make a trip to that bank), whose yard had not a leaf or twig spoiling the beauty, whose house was always in perfect order, and who could be counted on when times were tough – as well as share a laugh when times were good.  She was loyal and loving to family, friends, and strangers alike.

Elizabeth lived her life as a loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend and was known for her giving spirit.   Her generosity knew no bounds, whether it be bags of groceries discretely delivered, cash pressed into a needy hand, a trusted shoulder to help bear a burden, help with sick family members, and many other expressions of giving.  Care giving is her legacy and although she is gone, her spirit will live on.

Elizabeth was born June 27, 1937 to the late Jesse and Bessie Cartrette.  She is survived by her children, Denise Kiley (James) of Raleigh, and Tim Evans (Sue) of  Fishkill NY, her brother Don Cartrette (Judy) of Chadbourn, sisters Bernice Griffin of Chadbourn, Bonnie Williams of Whiteville, grandchildren Marybeth Hayes of Stedman, Nick Nason of Wrightsville Beach, Andrew Evans of Fishkill NY, Sarah Evans of Alpharetta GA, Abigail Evans of Brooklyn NY, great grandchildren Parker and Prestyn Hayes of Stedman, her lifelong friend Derotha Hooks, and her precious caregiver Maryjo Ingram as well as many beloved special nieces and nephews.

Loving thanks go to the many caregivers who spent countless hours of love and attention.  Among them:  Judy Cartrette, Bernice Griffin, Maryjo Ingram, Tonya Cartrette, Wendy McMillian, Tina McPherson, Denise Kiley, Cindy Hunt, Gay Scott and others too numerous to mention.

Words cannot express our gratitude to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center without whom we would have been lost.  Special appreciation to Sondra Duncan – RN, Amelia Williams – RN, Raquel Kermon – Social Work, Candice Butler – CNA, Alexis Cribb – RN, Megan Cartrette – RN, Dawn Priest – RN, Tina McPherson – RN as well as Candy Lee, Dana Bentley, Sheila Wheelock, Felecia, and Sonia Cardosa among others.  They provided loving care to Elizabeth until the very end.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 21, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church.
