The U.S. Coast Guard, along with federal, state, and industry partners, are scheduled to hold an active-shooter/active threat full-scale exercise in Brunswick County Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Bald Head Island Ferry in the vicinity of the Southport Channel, on the Cape Fear River.
Residents and community members around the Oak Island area should expect large numbers of public safety personnel, vessels, sirens, and simulated activities. These activities are associated with the exercise and will not pose a threat to the public.
This important full-scale exercise is organized by the regional Area Maritime Security Committee and will simulate a response to an attack against the marine transportation system. It is designed to enhance regional response readiness to ensure public safety and security.
