A juvenile was allegedly drinking beer when he was taken into custody with two older youths Wednesday.
James Huggins, 18, and Layton Hall, 20, were charged with misdemeanor larceny contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and underage consumption of alcohol. Both were out on bond on unrelated charges, and were held. Huggins gave his address as 525 Todd Town Rd., Clarendon. Hall gave his address as 151 W.R. Cribb Rd., Chadbourn.
Deputies were called to the Minuteman No. 50 at 5010 J.B. White Hwy. South to a larceny report. The clerk reported that Huggins and Hall entered the store and attempted to buy a 24 pack of Corona, but was refused because he didn’t have identification. The two then entered the store’s bathroom, where they remained several minutes, the report said.
One of the suspects then distracted the clerk by asking a for a can of dip, while the second suspect grabbed a case of Corona and one of Natural Light and fled the store. They drove away in a Yukon.
Video from the store helped identify the two suspects, who were already known to law enforcement, the report said the youth were found at Hall’s residence, drinking beer in the Yukon with a 14 year old boy. The juvenile blew a .05 blood alcohol level, the report said, and was turned over to his father.
Huggins allegedly assaulted his girlfriend with a knife in March, according to reports with the sheriff’s office. When he was being processed, he offered to fight all the deputies who were on duty at the detention center.
Hall was last arrested in September for allegedly selling stolen scrap metal.
