Former Sheriff’s Office Captain Kevin Norris has joined the race for the Columbus County’s top law enforcement officer. He recently retired as a 27 year veteran of the department. He joins a busy field of candidates for the nomination for the sheriff’s post. Josh Harris bowed out of the race this week, but appointed Sheriff Bill Rogers, former Deputy Josh McPherson and Chadbourn Police Chief Ken Elliott have all announced bids for the office.
The 2025 tropical season is expected to be busy, according to National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration forecast released this morning. Currently, 13 to 19 named storms are possible, with 6 to 10 of those becoming hurricanes and three to 5 major hurricanes.
What is being referred to as a “large scale” lottery theft ring is under investigation by the sheriff’s office. Four books containing approximately $6,000 in tickets were reported missing from the Sam’s Pit Stop in Bolton beginning in March, the report said. The store is located at 1104 Green Swamp Highway.
