For the month of May in Columbus County…
Here’s today’s Bottom Line
Changes. That’s the word for today’s report. Changes. …and “unsettled.” Not today or tomorrow… but beginning late Saturday and lasting into next week.
Strong high pressure continues to maintain control of our weather through early Saturday with dry weather and warm temps. We came juuuuust short of the 90-degree mark on my weather station on Wednesday. We might hit it today or tomorrow.
A frontal system (a cold front) approaches the area on Saturday. We will be increasingly warm and humid throughout the day, and the majority of the day should be dry, but there will be the threat for showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon… and that threat gets better and better as we get toward suppertime on Saturday.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely for Saturday night as the front stalls just inland from the coast. The front will then remain stationary along or just inland from the coast through Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. This will be the focus point for scattered showers and thunderstorms to continue each afternoon with cooler temperatures. Some areas may pick up significant amount of rain if these showers/storms can impact the same locations, while some areas get little, if anything. But overall the best opportunity for showers and storms for everyone will come Saturday evening into Saturday night.
For the Strawberry Festival, most of Saturday, again, should be dry, but bring an umbrella just in case. Scattered showers for Sunday as well.
