
Another black bear has been struck and killed on U.S. 74 near Hallsboro, the third in recent years in the same general area.
Hallsboro Volunteer Fire Department was called out at 10:46 p.m. Saturday after a westbound Kia automobile struck the young male bear, according to a social media post by HVFD. Apparatus 1618, Service Truck 16 were deployed with several firefighters.
The vehicle sustained major front end damage, and the three occupants were treated for minor injuries. They were transported to Columbus Regional for treatment.
Young male bears that have been pushed out by their mothers generally wander through the summer months, seeking food and new territory, according to the Wildlife Resources Commission. Bear sightings have been on the upswing in recent weeks as the actual dispersion gets into full swing.
