
FAIRMONT— South Columbus ended a three-game losing streak Friday night by outlasting Fairmont 55-36. The win gets the Stallions back on track, putting them at 1-0 in the Southeastern Conference and now 3-3 overall.
The Stallions started quick going ahead 21-8 in the first quarter before Fairmont tightened things up 28-20 before the half.
The Stallions built on their lead in the third quarter with a touchdown run of 15 yards from Preston Dager. Oscar Valdez added the extra point to give the Stallions a 35-20 advantage. In the fourth quarter, a 50 yards Logan Todd to Jaxon Green touchdown pass gave South Columbus a 42-20 lead. Oscar Valdez kicked the extra point. South Columbus continued to add to their lead when Preston Dager found the end zone again from 25 yards out to put the Stallions up 49-20 with the Valdez extra point. After a Fairmont touchdown and two-point conversion, Briar Johnson ran it in from 15 yards to give South Columbus a 55-28 lead. The Tornadoes added a late score for the final score of 55-36.
South Columbus will go to Red Springs (0-1, 2-4) to face the Red Devils on Friday. Fairmont, now 0-1 in the Southeastern Conference and 0-6 overall, will go to Dublin and face West Bladen (0-1, 2-4) on Oct. 10.
