Tabor Talk for April 22

By Cynthia Nelson

Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce

Since our last column our schools have been through Spring Break and gone back.

We encourage you to support the various school functions as well as our community’s recreational sports.  Our children and young adults would love to know their community supports them and their families.

Please save the date and mark your calendars for Friday, May 1.  On this date, we will be hosting a Pork Bog Plate Sale with proceeds benefitting this year’s Columbus County Fourth of July Fireworks Event celebrating 250 years of Freedom.  We still welcome event sponsors.  This fundraiser plus sponsors will help us have a bigger celebration for all to enjoy!

The Pork Bog Plate Sale will be in front of Ooh La La Gift Boutique, Apparel, and Home Decor.  Plates are $10 each and we will deliver large orders.  Tickets are available for purchase at Ooh La La and the Chamber office, and by Chamber Board members beginning Tuesday, April 21.  Pork Bog Plates consist of the delicious bog, green beans, bread, and dessert.  The chef is Tabor City’s very own, well-known  Richard Godwin.  Just call 910.377.3012 for more information.

Talking about recreational sports, we know that many of you enjoy fishing.  We hope you will consider signing up to participate in this Chamber’s 22nd Annual Bass Fishing Tournament on Saturday, May 9.  Cash prizes to be awarded are first place $250 (also includes a beautiful trophy), second place $175, and third place $100.  Registration begins at 5 a.m. with Blast Off at 6 a.m.  Call 910.377.3012  to pre-register.

On Saturday, June 27, we are coordinating with the Veterans Memorial Park as they bring a Freedom Fest Parade to Tabor City. Y’all are going to absolutely love the patriotic theme so please save the date.  Details coming soon.

Let’s keep in mind that America’s 250th Birthday Celebration — Columbus County Fireworks Style is on the horizon.  Save this very important date of Saturday, the 4th of July!

It’s going to be a celebration you will not want to miss as we honor 250 years of freedom with an unforgettable night of local entertainment, fireworks, and community pride.

Fundraising for the Fourth of July event is still underway. You may contribute at any time. Just call 910.840.0292 or 910.377.3012. Stay tuned for more Semiquincentennial event details.

As always, we need more event volunteers.  Please call us at 910.377.3012 if you are interested and willing to put in some time and effort. We work hard, but it is very rewarding.

We will have a couple of new Chamber members & new Member Ribbon Cuttings info soon.  You may go to our Facebook Page – Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce – to check for information between our columns.

Should you wish to become a member of this Chamber of Commerce, please contact us by email at tccofc@yahoo.com or by phone at 910.377.3012 or 910.840.0292.  We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Don’t forget that our established days and hours of operation remain Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with adjusted hours of 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.  Please know that these hours are now established and will continue until further notice.  Also, I am semi-retired so should you need to schedule a meeting beyond the above days and hours, please call me to coordinate.
