TGIF everyone! Thanks for checking in with the CCN Daily Weather Blog.

Here’s our updated rain-free streak:

The latest drought monitor is out and it’s really bad news for the area. The entire state is under drought conditions… with most of the state under “severe” drought.

Meteorologist Tim Buckley spelled this out on FB yesterday, stating that we’re approaching drought levels that are the “worst […] in 15-20 years.”  He stated that soil moisture is dropping, and that streams and creeks continue to run quite low.  He also compared this with the droughts of 200-08, 2002, and 2016.  What sets this apart, he said, is the pace of the drought:  “The ground is drying out quickly, and without multiple, soaking rains (not just scattered showers), this will get worse.”

We’re dry and quite warm for today and most of tomorrow, but I’m pretty sure that our rain-free streak will come to an end Saturday evening. A cold front will cross the area late Saturday night into early Sunday morning bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms.

But that where the good news really ends. The latest model blends have trended down a little bit with regard to rain totals — now only about a quarter of an inch for the area. Some areas might pick up more, but that’ll be the exception rather than the rule.

Another front moves through on Tuesday with similar characteristics, bringing the threat for showers and storms. Some of the guidance suggests this front gets “hung up” and keeps occasional showers and storms in the area through the second half of next week. One can hope!
