Donation, celebration, and education are just a few of the words that describe the round up of events over the next couple of weeks in Columbus County. Sign your child up for a summer camp, learn about disaster relief and firearm safety, and join area seniors as they receive their diplomas. VBS submissions are also rolling into the newsroom, so send in your church’s details to be included in the CCN VBS List for absolutely free.

Lake Waccamaw State Park and the Columbus County 4-H will be having a summer camp June 22-26 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Kids ages 9-12 years old are welcome to attend. Activities will include swimming, learning about reptiles and other animals like snakes, turtles, and birds, fire safety, ziplining, and archery.
A 4-H membership is required for participation, and memberships are free. You can sign up by visiting www.4honline.com/#/landing. The cost for the camp is $55, and spots are limited to 20 youth.

The National Honor Society at Whiteville High School delivered a huge donation of supplies to the Columbus County Animal Protective Services facility last week. Students collected treats, food, and supplies for all the dogs and cats at the shelter. APS took to Facebook for thank the kids for their generosity.
Carolyn’s Kaleidoscope Child Advocacy Center is in need of new blankets for medical exams for children ages newborn to 18 years old. Bright colors, fun patterns, character blankets, and fuzzy throws that are kid-friendly help make medical exams feel less scary.
Those who would like to ship or drop off donations to the center can do so at 219 North Lee Street in Whiteville. The blankets will be distributed in Columbus, Bladen, Robeson, and surrounding counties.
Lakeside worship services will begin Memorial Day Sunday and will run every weekend through Labor Day Sunday. The services are held at 9 a.m. at the Lake Waccamaw Campground Pavilion Located at 3010 Canal Cove Road.
Transformation Church and Milk B4 Meat Ministries and friends will have a three-day sidewalk revival on May 28-30 at 6:30 p.m. each evening in the Walmart parking lot in Whiteville. A candlelight vigil will be held on May 29 for Pastor Heath Conner as he was supposed to be the speaker that evening and unexpectedly passed away.
Pastor Buddy Seay of Beaverdam OFWB Church will preach on May 28, the vigil will be led by Pastor Jon Walton of Transformation Church on May 29, and on May 30, Evangelist Lynn Lowery will bring the word.
Iron Hill Baptist Church will be having a fish fry fundraiser on May 29 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Plates are $10 each and will include a catfish fillet, sweet potatoes, homemade cole slaw, bread, and a dessert.

All Columbus, Bladen, and Brunswick County pastors are invited to the Pastor’s Prayer Breakfast on May 30 at 8 a.m. at Chadbourn Holiness Church for the Encounter Crusade. The meal will be free of charge and crucial information for the crusade will be handed out to you and your churches.
Matthew Ward will be the guest speaker, and everyone is encouraged to invite your pastor friends. CHC can be found at 518 North Elm Street in Chadbourn.
The Columbus County Disaster Coalition will be hosting the Columbus County Preparedness Expo on May 30 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the fairgrounds. The event is focused on the public meeting community partners active in disasters.
There will be free food until supplies last, door prizes, Touch-A-Truck, and other fun activities. Come out and learn how to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season. The fairgrounds can be found at 886 Prison Camp Road in Whiteville.
Trillium Health Resources in partnership with the Columbus County Disaster Coalition will be hosting a Post Disaster Simulation on June 2 at Whiteville United Methodist Church. Check-in will be at 8:30 a.m., and the workshop will run from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
The event is geared to help communities understand what happens in the aftermath of hurricanes and other weather and fire events. It highlights the added struggles for individuals living with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders.

The We Care Ministry in Clarkton has announced their new dates and time for their community food distribution. The next distribution day will be June 2. The event is a first come, first serve drive thru service only, and you are asked to please remain in your vehicle. Everyone is welcome.

Columbus County Health Department invites all community members to join them on June 2 at 10 a.m. as they continue to develop their Firearms Safety Team. This imitative focuses on promoting firearm safety, preventing injury, and strengthening the community through collaboration and awareness.
This meeting is open to any county resident who is interested in being part of the conversation and helping bring firearm safety awareness to the area. For more information, call 910.640.6615. Area high schools will be having graduation commencement next week. West Columbus High School will walk on June 5 at 6 p.m., South Columbus High School will accept their diplomas on June 6 at 10 a.m., and East Columbus High School will graduate on June 6 at 4 p.m.
If you can’t make it to your student’s event, several live stream platforms on social media will be available for viewing on the Columbus County Schools Facebook page and YouTube channel.
The Columbus County Community Farmers Market has new hours of operation. The facility will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-7 p.m. and every Saturday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Come shop fresh and local and support vendors and farmers in our community.
The market has fresh produce, farm-fresh eggs, homemade breads, jams and jellies, local honey, fresh juices, handmade jewelry, custom tumblers, crafts, games for all ages, live music, and so much more. The facility will have a Skate Night on June 6 from 5-7 p.m. The market is located at 132 Government Complex Drive in Whiteville.
Fair Bluff will have their First Saturday Market on June 6 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Come out and enjoy the Riverwalk and do some shopping with vendors, yard sellers, and artisans at Riverside Drive. While you’re in town, be sure to stop by Main Street for ‘Art in the Park’ across from the Lumber River Visitors Center.
Any and all beautiful artwork from drawings, paintings, wooden items, crafts, needlepoint, and handmade jewelry will be up for grabs. To participate in selling your pieces, be sure to comment under the post on the Fair Bluff Chamber of Commerce Facebook Page. Entry is free to both events.

The Family Birthing Center at Columbus Regional Healthcare System is inviting expectant mothers in their third trimester and their partners to attend birthing classes at the facility. Space is limited, but they will accommodate all interested participants.
The class will include topics like what to expect during your birth experience, the benefits of breastfeeding and how to be successful, a tour of the center, and a meet and greet with the staff. Refreshments will be served at each session.
The event is free, and each session will run from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Classes are scheduled for the following dates:
