A midnight break-in attempt led to the arrest of a Whiteville man near Clarkton.
James Best, 48, was held under $5,000 secured bond, charged with second degree trespass and possession of drug paraphernalia. His address was listed as 1204 Rico Rd., Whiteville.
The sheriff’s office reported that deputies went to the home on Mt. Calvary Road after a 911 call about an attempted break-in in progress. A resident identified Best as her ex-boyfriend, and told deputies that Best had been told to stay away from the property.
Deputies found Best “hiding behind bushes” on a nearby property, and took him into custody. During a search for weapons, deputies located a pair of binoculars, alleged drug paraphernalia, a “blue pill,” and a quantity of a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana.
Best was jailed under no bond.
