Man Charged for Damaging Home

Deputies caught a break-in suspect damaging a St. James area home July 17, according to reports.

Percy Williams Pickett III, 47, was placed under $15,000 secured bond, charged with attempted breaking and entering and a parole violation. Since he was already out on bond on an unrelated charge, however, he was ordered held. His address was listed as 741 Old Wilmington Road, the same location as the incident.

Deputies were called to the home at 10:27 p.m. to a break-in in progress. The report said that on arrival, they found Pickett breaking windows in the house.

“Despite repeated verbal commands,” the report said, “Pickett refused to comply and was taken into custody after a brief physical struggle.”

While deputies were detaining Pickett, they spotted another individual inside the home, and the man was reportedly holing a firearm. That man was briefly detained until deputies determined he was the homeowner, the report said.

The owner told deputies that Pickett had allegedly broken multiple windows and damaged an air conditioner trying to gain entry. The owner also said Pickett was not allowed on the property, the report said.
