Here’s today’s Bottom Line

Short and sweet will be today’s report, focused primarily on the thunderstorm coverage likely this afternoon and this evening, and then again Saturday through Saturday night.

A frontal boundary will become stalled across the central Carolinas. Deep tropical moisture will lift northeast over the area. This will result in multiple waves of showers and thunderstorms.

There’s only a level 1 risk for severe storms today … but the primary risk will be that of intense rainfall with flash flooding and frequent to near-constant cloud-to-ground lightning.

We’ll wash, rinse, and repeat on Saturday with showers and storms developing by mid afternoon and persisting through the evening hours.

Model blends suggest 1-3 inches of rain can be expected. This is going to be highly variable depending on where storms become established. Individual storm cells, which won’t move very fast or far, could dump 2-4+ inches of rain in just a few hours. Rainfall of this magnitude will result in flash flooding.

We’ll dry out and return to a typical summertime regime by next week.

TROPICS: Quiet at this time.
