WHITEVILLE—Ty’Lae Rose pounded out four touchdowns Thursday night as the Wolfpack crushed West Columbus 53-8.
Rose toted the rock 24 times for 188 yards on the night. Rose ran it in from 25 yards to put the Pack up 7-0 with 7:44 in the first quarter. Rose continued to take the ball and bruise the Vikings as he scored from nine yards out on the first play in the second quarter to put Whiteville up 21-0 with 11:56 to go in the second quarter.
The threat from West Columbus was DJ Graham. He scrambled and ran all night. Whiteville’s defense flushed him out of the pocket continuously. Graham got the Vikings on the board with 10 yard run to cut the lead to 21-8 with the two-point conversion.
The Wolfpack responded with a safety and another touchdown by Ty’Lae Rose to put the pack up 31-8 with the two-point conversion with 3:28 left in the second quarter.

The second half didn’t fair well for West Columbus. Travionne Williams intercepted a DJ Graham pass and took it to the house to put the Pack up 39-8 starting the third quarter. The Vikings could not produce yardage while Whiteville continued to gain real estate.
Rose added his fourth score from four yards out with 8:15 left in the fourth quarter to give the Wolfpack a 53-8 lead, which turned out to be the final score.
The Wolfpack (1-0) will host West Brunswick Aug. 28 in the Battle for 130. West Columbus (0-1) will host county rival South Columbus in Cerro Gordo on Aug. 28.
The scheduled season opener was moved to Thursday due to the possibility of severe weather today (Friday). As it was, the matchup saw a lightning delay as a fast but strong storm moved through the area.
