Three narcotics suspects were arrested by sheriff’s office HEAT patrols in unrelated stops over recent days.
In a press release, the sheriff’s office said a HEAT deputy saw a dark automobile traveling at a high rate of speed along Page Mill and Blackwell roads on Sept. 27. The car was driving erratically, the release said, and the deputy initiated a traffic stop. Christopher Rashane Smith, 36, of Chadbourn was driving.
“The deputy observed behaviors that indicated Mr. Smith was under the influence of alcohol,” the release said. Smith refused to submit to field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
Deputies found multiple open containers of alcohol and a loaded, concealed firearm in his vehicle.
Smith was held under $2,500 secured bond, charged with driving while impaired, carrying a concealed firearm, having open containers in a passenger area, and driving left of center. His address was listed as 710 Clark St., Chadbourn.
In an unrelated case, a man from Knightdale and a woman from Loris were picked up by HEAT deputies Sept. 30.
Deputies were conducting a traffic checking station on Cox Town Road near Wright Road, in the Tabor City area when a Chevrolet Malibu operated by David Junior Jenkins Jr. of Knightdale approached.
Jenkins, 48, did not have a driver’s license, only a state ID, the press release said. While the deputy was talking with Jenkins, he noticed the man allegedly trying to hide a glass pipe. Jenkins was instructed to get out of the vehicle and complied, the release said.
The passenger in the vehicle, Christina Fulghum, was also ordered out of the vehicle. Fulghum, 37, allegedly had a “white powered substance” in a plastic bag. Deputies found another pipe and more white powder during a search of the vehicle.
A records check showed Fulghum had an outstanding arrest warrant.
Jenkins, of Knightdale, was charged with driving while license revoked and drug paraphernalia, and held without bond. Fulghum, of Loris, was charged with felony possession of cocaine, possession of Schedule 1 narcotics, and failure to appear. Her bond was set at $50,900.
