Here’s today’s Bottom Line —

The dry spell continues. Yesterday was day #15 in Whiteville since our last measurable rain event. Now it’s starting to get dangerous with all the leaves falling, etc. ANY spark or careless cigarette butt could cause a wildfire at this point. Please be very careful if doing any outdoor burning.

High pressure is keeping us dry through Wednesday. Temps will warm up to well above seasonal normal values.

Our next rain chances… albeit relatively slim… come with a slow-moving frontal boundary Thursday into Friday. Modeling shows a tenth to a quarter of an inch of rain possible… but I think we’ll be lucky if we do get that much.

You’ll also notice on that model map the low off the east coast. This is represented by the GFS, European, and ICON global models. The National Hurricane Center is not highlighting any areas on their latest outlook (as of late Sunday night), so that will likely be a nontropical low. Whatever forms will be “shoved” out to sea by the progressing cold front over our area late in the week. No worries.
