The body of a Shallotte man was pulled from the Lumber River this morning after he apparently drowned at the Lumber River Campground.
Brian Thomas Lynch, 36, of Shallotte was camping near the water, according to the sheriff’s office. Lynch was last seen by another camper at approximately 1 a.m. When he was not at his camp site around 8 a.m., law enforcement was contacted.
The sheriff’s office Mantracking and Dive teams were dispatched to the campground. Lynch was found in the water near his campsite.
Sheriff Jody Greene thanked the staff at Lumber River for “going above and beyond” in helping with the search.
Lynch was the second drowning in the county this year, and the first on the Lumber. A Cumberland county man drowned at Lake Waccamaw last month while trying to save two boys who fell off a jet ski.
