Whiteville Wolfpack vs Laney March 8, 2022
The Wolfpack lost a close one to Laney last night at Legion Stadium 2-1. For the second game in a row the umpires played a role in stopping runs from being scored. Last night, with two runners on base, Ty Lawson hit a ball down the left field line that landed fair by at least a foot, the ball was called foul by the home plate umpire. Eventually a run scored from third on a sacrifice fly by Lawson to right field, but it was sure to be two runs across the plate and a potential big inning if the earlier contact was called fair.
Ty Lawson was the starting pitcher for the Wolfpack, and he struck out 9 batters and gave up 3 hits and an earned run. Lawson dominated till the temperature dropped and his pitch count elevated. Ashton Hammonds came in to pitch after Lawson and looked good. There were a few bad throws by Whiteville that kept an inning or two alive for Laney, eventually allowing an insurance run for the Buccaneers. It was not till Laney replaced their starting pitcher in the seventh inning that the Wolfpack bats started to wake up, but once again it was just a little too late for Whiteville.
The Wolfpack look to pick up their first home win of the season Saturday at 1pm in Legion Stadium, as Midway will be in town. Pregame coverage begins at 12:45pm on KOOL-FM. You can catch every home pitch and away game updates on Kool 103.9 FM radio and streaming at www.Kool1039Radio.com
