The head-on collision that killed two men near Bolton Thursday was the third time in three years that the Saint Patrick’s Day week was marred by highway fatalities.
Ryan Patrick Young, 38, and John Douglas Suelter, 80, died at the scene of the crash on N.C. 211 near Bolton. The Highway Patrol reported that Young crossed the centerline while heading south and collided head-on with the northbound Suelter.
Information on other occupants in the vehicles was not immediately available.
Young lived in the Bolton area, and Suelter was from Supply.
Bolton Fire responded, along with Buckhead Rescue, Lake Waccamaw Rescue and Whiteville Rescue.
During the same week in 2020, a bicyclist and the driver of an automobile were killed in separate crashes. In 2021, a woman was killed when her SUV overturned near the South Carolina line.
Thursday’s deaths bring the total for the year to eight on county roadways.
