Crack cocaine and illegal parking sent a Wilmington man to jail early Monday morning.
Michael Dean Benoy, age 51, was stopped in the middle of the roadway on N.C. 211 near Bolton when a deputy spotted his vehicle around 2 a.m., a report with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office said.
When a deputy stopped to help Benoy, the suspect said he was “looking for something but acted suspicious,” the report said.
A search turned up four grams of crack cocaine and a crack pipe in the Jeep Gladiator, the report said. He admitted to the deputy that he had recently used the drug, the report said.
Benoy was charged with maintaining a vehicle for drugs, possession of cocaine and stopping a vehicle on a roadway. He was released on a $5,000 secured bond. His address was listed as 623 Trevis Lane, Wilmington.
