Monday was a busy day for the sheriff’s office, as two departments made major narcotics arrests in two different parts of the county.

Stefon Geathers, 38, of 4875 Old Lumberton Rd., Whiteville, was held under $256,000 secured bond. He faces multiple charges of trafficking in opiates and MDMA, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana and MDMA, felony possession of cocaine, driving while impaired, resisting an officer, and drug paraphernalia.

In an unrelated case, Emily Durland, 39, was arrested after a traffic stop in the Iron Hill area. She was charged with maintaining a vehicle for drug activities, possession of heroin and methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. Her address was listed as 241 Sunset Dr., Fair Bluff. Her bond was set at $6,500.

In a press release, the sheriff’s office reported that Vice and Narcotics agents initiated a traffic stop on Geathers on West Columbus Street in Whiteville, at which point Geathers allegedly pulled into a driveway and walked away from the car. Agents detained Geathers, and in plain view inside the vehicle saw what appeared to be narcotics and an open container of alcohol.

A search of the vehicle turned up trafficking amounts of MDMA, also called Ecstasy, as well as large amounts of oxycodone. Cocaine, prescription pills and marijuana were also found in the car. MDMA is a hallucinogen known as the “date rape drug,” since it can inhibit short term memory.

As agents were processing Geathers in Whiteville, the Special Operations HEAT unit was working in Iron Hill. They performed a traffic stop on Durland at Peacock and Reynolds roads, and she consented to a search of the vehicle. Deputies found heroin and meth during the search, the report said.

Sheriff W.A. “Bill” Rogers said the Special Operations Division has been assigned to emphasize the disruption of narcotics sales and use in the county.

“If you know of narcotics being sold in your community, please submit a tip on our website and join us in the effort to combat drugs at the source,” Rogers said in the release.

Also on Monday, Javon Geathers, 31, also of 4875 Old Lumberton Rd., was arrested on charges of felony possession of cocaine, driving while license revoked, and failure to appear on a charge of disorderly conduct at a school. The charges were taken out  by Chadbourn Police.
