The man and woman who allegedly broke a child’s arms and legs and left her with permanent injuries have been indicted for attempted murder.
Kayla Michelle Evers, 31, and Parker Delane Spaulding, 29, were initially arrested March 9, 2020 on charges of negligent child abuse causing serious bodily injury. They were each placed under $250,000 secured bond. Their address was listed as 5640 Sam Potts Hwy., Hallsboro.
The sheriff’s office reported that investigators were called to New Hanover Regional on March 9 after the child, who was 14 months old at the time, was brought to the emergency department. The girl suffered broken bones in all four limbs, “extreme bruising” and “extensive brain injuries” that resulted in permanent damage. The child was airlifted to UNC Chapel Hill.
Investigators went to 5640 and 5642 Sam Potts Highway immediately after leaving New Hanover. They collected several “pieces of evidence” connected to the case, a press release said.
Kendrell Robinson, 27, of 5642 Sam Potts was at the scene, and arrested for possession of a stolen firearm. Jeanne Spaulding, 48, was also charged with negligent child abuse causing serious injury. Her bond as set at $250,000.
The grand jury opted for the more serious charge of attempted murder and returned a true bill on Evers and Spaulding on May 8, court documents show.
