Surveillance cameras once again helped solve a theft case in Columbus, this time in Sandyfield.
Robert Silvestia Bowen, 76, of 1001 East Arcadia Rd., Riegelwood, was released on a $7,500 secured bond in the November incident.
A detective was called to a home at the intersection of N.C. 87 and N.C. 11 (Gen. Howe Highway) to a report of a break-in on Nov. 17. The property had sustained “significant” damage, according to the report, including a broken window and a door that had been forced open.
A battery charger and battery and other items were missing. Bowen was identified via surveillance footage of the theft.
Bowen was arrested Nov. 26.
“This case underscores the value of surveillance cameras in assisting law enforcement,” Sheriff Bill Rogers said in a press release. “It emphasizes the importance of proactive community measures. The use of surveillance cameras by citizens continues to play a vital role in solving crimes and keeping our community safe. We encourage everyone to consider installing cameras on their properties as an added layer of security.”
