An Evergreen woman has been charged with crying wolf after she filed a false kidnapping report, the sheriff’s office said.
Alva Jill Nance, 57, was charged with a single count of filing a false police report, and released under $1,000 bond. She lives on Grey Lane at Evergreen.
Nance allegedly told deputies that on May 15, she was at the Sun-Do station in Evergreen when she was approached by a man she knows. The man displayed a knife, entered her car and took her keys, according to the initial report. He then allegedly forced her to drive to an unknown location where he assaulted her and left her without her keys.
Investigators checked surveillance tapes from the station, as well as interviewing potential witness.
“After reviewing all the evidence,” a press release from the CCSO said, “the investigator concluded that Nance had filed a false incident report.”
When she was confronted, Nance confessed, the release said.
“Sheriff Jody Greene and staff have received numerous phone calls from concerned citizens who feared for their safety after this report was made public,” the CCSO release said. “It is important to inform the public about the findings of this investigation to calm any fears that may have originated from this false report.”
