County Commissioners and the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office are struggling with a $731,000 medical bill incurred by an inmate at the detention center. The county will pay the bill through fund balance, but commissioners are also concerned what might happen in the future. The county has just over $4 million in fund balance for use during emergencies.
A Myrtle Beach couple was arrested after six grams of fentanyl was found in their vehicle. Anthony Breeden and Julianne Zevgolis, both 36, were arrested in a traffic stop at NC 242 and Princess Ann Roads. They were both charged with trafficking, carrying a concealed firearm and other felonies, and held under secured bonds.
More than 3 million dollars will be coming to Southeastern North Carolina to help with road and infrastructure repairs. Congressman David Rouzer said the funds are part of the response to Potential Tropical Cyclone 8. The September storm dropped more than 18 inches of rain, causing catastrophic flooding in Brunswick County, as well as significant flooding in Columbus County.
