Chase Suspect Fights Troopers

Joseph Paul Singletary (CCSO Detention)

A high speed chase in the rain led to the arrest of a Las Vegas man Thursday after he fought with troopers.

Joseph Paul SIngletary, 36, of Las Vegas, Nev., was held under $25,000 secured bond, according to detention center records. He is charged with multiple traffic violations, as well as careless and reckless driving, felony fleeing to elude arrest, resisting an officer, driving while impaired, and felony cruelty to animals.

Warrants show that Singletary allegedly was driving on U.S. 74 at a high rate of speed during heavy rain when a State Trooper tried to stop him for a violation. Singletary refused to stop, and instead accelerated. At one point he was driving at 90 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. When he finally stopped, warrants show that Singletary had a dog in the front seat, and the dog was not secured or restrained in any way.

When Trooper Z. Faulk and another trooper took Singletary into custody, he began fighting, the warrant shows. He was visibly impaired at the time. Singletary allegedly tried to exit the patrol vehicle, and continued fighting after he was back inside the car. When they reached the magistrate’s office, troopers put Singletary in leg shackles as well as handcuffs, and he “laid on the floor, screamed and twisted his legs,” the warrant shows. Deputies and troopers had to use a restraint chair to keep Singletary under control.

The GMC SUV was seized under the “run and done” law. The dog was not hurt.
