A Lee County woman has been charged with attempting to bring narcotics into the prison facility at Brunswick.
India Leandra Berryman, 30, was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver K2 Spice and suboxone; possession of drugs at a prison; maintaining a vehicle for drug activities, possession of a firearm on prison grounds, and possession of stolen property. Her bond was set at $10,000.
Berryman had 3.8 grams of suboxone strips and 20 units of K2 Spice, a synthetic cannabinoid, on her person when she attempted to visit an inmate at Columbus Correctional in Brunswick on July 15, the sheriff’s office said in a press release. She was allegedly attempting to deliver the drugs when she was arrested.
Corrections officers contacted the sheriff’s office after discovering Berryman had the narcotics.
As part of the investigation, county Vice-Narcotic detectives searched Barryman’s Kia automobile, where they discovered a Sig Sauer handgun and ammunition. The slide on the gun was reported stolen.
Sheriff Bill Rogers praised the cooperation between county and prison staff on the case.
