Clerk of Superior Court Named President of Conference

Columbus County Clerk of Superior Court Jess Hill has been named president of the N.C. Conference of Clerks of Superior Court.

Hill was sworn in Aug. 21 at the annual conference, held this year in Beaufort. He received the oath of office from N.C. Superior Court Justice Paul Newby. Judicial District 13A Senior Resident Superior Court Judge C. Ashley Gore conducted the ceremony.

Hill has served as clerk of superior court since 2014. The Columbus County native He has been actively involved in the Conference, including serving as legislative chair for the past two years, and is known for his strong community engagement. He also led efforts to restore the County Courthouse, and oversaw much of the renovation and reopening of the building. From organizing the Columbus County Fair to supporting his four children’s activities, Hill is a familiar presence both locally and in Raleigh. As president, he said he looks forward to strengthening legislative partnerships and continuing to advance the statewide eCourts transition.

Other officers sworn in alongside Hill include Deborah “Susie” Thomas of Lee County, First Vice President; John Deaton of Montgomery County, Second Vice President; Dean Tolson of Dare County, Secretary, and Ginger Efird, Stanly County, Treasurer.
