A Whiteville man allegedly kidnapped a Myrtle Beach woman and threatened to commit suicide in front of her on Christmas Eve.
Matthew Duncan, 30, was arrested Jan 13 on charges of assault and kidnapping. He was released the next day on $21,500 secured bond, according to Horry County Police. His address was not immediately available.
HCPD said a man called 911 on Christmas Eve and reported that the woman had been kidnapped. Police had visited her home on an earlier call after Duncan was allegedly coming to her house on a regular basis.
Around 10 p.m., police said, Duncan returned to the home and asked the victim to sit in his truck and talk. When she agreed, he allegedly took her telephone and drove away. When she later escaped the vehicle, the report said, he grabbed her arm and struck her in the stomach before forcing her back into the truck. HCPD said Duncan told the woman he was taking her to Whiteville, and she would have to watch him kill himself.
The woman got out of the truck at a Tabor City church and sought help.
Duncan turned himself in to HCPD on Jan. 13.
