Downtown to Host Farmers Market

Vendors are being sought for a new farmers market for Whiteville.

The market is scheduled to open April 16, and will be held twice a month in downtown Whiteville  at Vineland Station.

“The goal of this market is to highlight local produce, flowers, honey, baked goods and farm-grown products,” said Emily Cross of Whiteville Downtown Development said in a Facebook announcement. “We are committed to keeping this an authentic and traditional farmers market that supports our local growers and producers.”

Dates for the market are April 16 and 20; May 7 and 21; June 4 and 18; July 16 and 30; Aug. 6 and 20; Sept. 3 and 17; Oct. 1 and 15; and Nov. 5.

The downtown market is not intended to compete with the county farmers market, which is held every Saturday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Government Complex  Road.

“This market is not affiliated with the Columbus County Farmers Market,” Cross said in the Facebook post. “Our intention is to coexist and support local agriculture by hosting on different dates so that the markets do not overlap.”

The vendor list application ad agreement will be available Feb. 20, Cross said. Vendor cost for the whole season is $200.
