CCSO Cracks Down on Dumping

Illegal dumping on Big Island Road has caught the attention of the sheriff’s office.

“The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple complaints regarding illegal littering and dumping along Big Island Road in the Old Dock Community,” CCSO said in a press release. “Trash has been unlawfully discarded on both private property and along the public roadway.

“Illegal dumping not only damages private property but also creates safety hazards and negatively impacts the beauty and environment of our beautiful community.”

Household garbage as well as construction debris has been found in several sites on several occasions, the release said.

New signs have been placed in the area, along with surveillance cameras. The Sheriff’s Office also dispatched the State Misdemeanor Confinement Program crew to clean up the garbage.

“If you witness anyone disposing trash unlawfully, please report it immediately,” Sheriff Bill Rogers said in the release.
