Here’s today’s Bottom Line

Greetings and welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Daily Weather Update on Columbus County News! Thank you for taking time out of your day to check in.

Here’s our updated rain-free streak…

Unfortunately there’s no rain in sight for at least the next 7-10 days. The burn ban remains in effect, and the drought conditions continue to worsen. The U.S. Drought Monitor will be updated on Thursday.

There is an even higher fire danger for today given very low relative humidity values this afternoon and some marginally gusty winds (about 20 mph).

The heat will also be a thing through Sunday thanks to the dominant ridge of high pressure offshore and aloft. Temps will be in the 90s … peaking into the middle 90s on Saturday. Heat index values on Saturday will likely approach, if not exceed, the Misery Mark of 100.

A cold front (!!) will cross the area later Sunday afternoon. Don’t get your hopes up on some rain, though. If anything at all we’ll get a few drops from an isolated shower. But I highly doubt it, and it’s not in my forecast.

The front WILL (briefly) break down the ridge and allow some cooler temperatures in here. We’ll go from the lower 90s on Sunday to the lower 70s on Monday with lows in the upper 40s, so there’s that at least.
