Ricky Robinson’s freedom didn’t last long when he was released from prison last week.
Robinson, 63, was released from Mecklenburg Correctional after serving time for larceny, and sentenced as a habitual felon. He was immediately taken back into custody by the Department of Corrections and charged with escape.
In 2017, Robinson was an inmate in the minimum security section of Tabor Correctional when he escaped while doing janitorial work at Columbus Correctional in Brunswick. Robinson allegedly just walked away from his jobsite one afternoon, and wasn’t found missing until that evening.
The escape led to an intense manhunt by deputies and DOC personnel. Robinson was eventually found in the home of an acquaintance in Brunswick, not far from the prison facility. Officers arrested him without incident around 1 a.m. on June 21, 2017, after more than two days on the run.
Robinson’s criminal record stretches back to 1977, according to court records. Sentencing information for the new charges was not immediately available.
