The Veterans Memorial Park of America will host the Veterans Benefits Administration on June 12 and 26 from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Outreach Center. These gatherings are for personalized support, resources, and connections for vets seeking benefits, who have questions about their benefits, and who need help finding community programs.
There is limited availability, and those interested are asked to call Randy Norris at 910.840.5207 to set up an appointment. The park can be found at 6354 James B. White Highway South in Whiteville.

The Family Birthing Center at Columbus Regional Healthcare System is inviting expectant mothers in their third trimester and their partners to attend birthing classes at the facility. Space is limited, but they will accommodate all interested participants.
The class will include topics like what to expect during your birth experience, the benefits of breastfeeding and how to be successful, a tour of the center, and a meet and greet with the staff. Refreshments will be served at each session.
The event is free, and each session will run from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Classes are scheduled for the following dates:

- Nov. 14
- Dec. 12

From big dreams to the big screen, Hallsboro native Joshua T. Shipman will be acting in a supportive role in the Lifetime Original faith-based movie “Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery.” The movie premiered on June 6.
The film tells the story of a woman named Cassie Newton. Newton, a renowned Christian feminist icon and bestselling author, finds her world turned upside down when she becomes the target of a blackmail scheme. When confronted with evidence of her extramarital affair, Cassie must navigate the treacherous waters of public scrutiny while fighting to salvage her marriage, career, and the trust of her devoted followers.
If you’re looking to expand or thin out your flock, Gurganus Feed and Grain will be hosting another Flock Swap this weekend, June 13, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. in the store parking lot. Gurganus is located at 6 Whiteville Plaza in Whiteville.

Folks are invited to come out and get their fall physicals, vision, and hearing tests, and there will also be a kids fingerprinting station available. Emergency vehicles and race cars from local businesses and fire, EMS, and police departments will be set up for the Touch-A-Truck event. Food trucks for lunch and entertainment will be happening at the pavilion.

The Light Keepers at Safe Harbor Baptist Church in Delco will be having their second annual yard sale and hotdog sale on Saturday, June 13, from 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. Proceeds will go directly to the kid’s Winter Jam fund.
Hot dog plates include two hot dogs, chips, drink, and a cookie for $5, and for another $5, you can fill up a bag full of clothes. The church is located at 27001 Andrew Jackson Highway. It’s Cancer Survivor’s Month, and the City of Whiteville Fire Department is raising funds for the Donayre Cancer Center in town. Those interested in helping out with the cause are asked to make checks payable to either Donayre or to the Whiteville Firefighters Association.
Every fundraiser should have a special incentive, and both Chief Yergeau and Nurse Cassie are being good sports about this one. If $2,000 is raised, the fire chief will dye his infamous handlebar mustache purple for cancer survivors, and if $2,500 is raised, Yergeau will cut Nurse Cassie’s hair to donate to have a wig made for cancer patients.
The charity event will run from June 1-26. The fire department’s address is 120 East Columbus Street in Whiteville.
The Columbus County Community Farmers Market has new hours of operation. The facility will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-7 p.m. and every Saturday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Come shop fresh and local and support vendors and farmers in our community.
The market has fresh produce, farm-fresh eggs, homemade breads, jams and jellies, local honey, fresh juices, handmade jewelry, custom tumblers, crafts, games for all ages, live music, and so much more. The market is located at 132 Government Complex Drive in Whiteville.

Southeastern Community College will be kicking off summer with a special event in honor of the America’s 250th year. Summer Fest will be held on Thursday, June 25, starting at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy an evening of food trucks, local vendors, lawn games, inflatables, face painting, and fun. Spread out your blankets or pull up a chair, and stick around for an outdoor showing of National Treasure at 8:30 p.m.

If your little one loves to read, then there is definitely some Good News in store for all the parents out there. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library has reopened in Columbus County. If your child is under the age of five years old, he or she can receive one free book every month until their fifth birthday.
To register your kiddo, stop by the Columbus County Partnership for Children and Families located at 107 West Main Street in Whiteville. You can also sign them up at www.imaginationlibrary.com.

The program will run every Wednesday in July from 10-11 a.m. with fun activities, great books, and plenty of prehistoric surprises. All children are welcome to attend. Rube McCray Library can be found at 301 Flemington Drive in Lake Waccamaw.
The Columbus Baptist Association is currently collecting items for their Nicaragua Mission Team trip through July 1. Items include sports equipment, school supplies, beads and string, jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, plastic cereal bowls, flip flops, fingernail polish, kids socks, and used eyeglasses.
