The Columbus County Community Farmers Market has new hours of operation. The facility will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-7 p.m. and every Saturday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Come shop fresh and local and support vendors and farmers in our community.
The market has fresh produce, farm-fresh eggs, homemade breads, jams and jellies, local honey, fresh juices, handmade jewelry, custom tumblers, crafts, games for all ages, live music, and so much more. The market is located at 132 Government Complex Drive in Whiteville.

Friends of the Rube McCray Memorial Library in Lake Waccamaw will continue their summer reading program for kids today, July 8, at 10 a.m. at the library. ‘Unearth a Story’ is a dinosaur-themed event with prehistoric stories and activities.
If you can’t make this week’s meeting, the group will meet again on July 15 and 55. The RMML is located at 301 Flemington Drive in Lake Waccamaw.

The Columbus County Beekeepers Association will have their monthly meeting on July 9 at 7 p.m. at the N.C. Cooperative Extension. The guest speaker will be Barry Chadwick, and he will be discussing summer dearth.
Whether you are a seasoned keeper or just curious about bees, you are invited to come learn, connect, and celebrate with the bee community. The extension is located at 45 Government Complex Drive in Whiteville.

The Columbus Baptist Association will be having their prayer gathering for the Encounter Crusade on July 9 at 7 p.m. at Riegelwood Baptist Church. They are asking for church leaders and their members to come together to pray for speakers, musicians, volunteers, churches, and pastors participating in the event.
This event is free and open to everyone. Riegelwood Baptist Church is located at 103 N.C. Highway 87 in Riegelwood.

Faith Fellowship Holiness Church will be having a BBQ sale on July 10 starting at 10:30 a.m. All proceeds will go to the Missions Team who will be traveling to Africa in August.
Plates are $10 each and include BBQ, baked beans, bread, and cake. Fresh squeezed lemonade will be available for $5, and canned drinks can be purchased for $2 each. The Whiteville Junior Women’s Club will be hosting a charity workout class on July 11 at 9 a.m. at Nautilus Fitness Center in Whiteville. The cost is $15 per person for the full body strength workout, and all proceeds will go to benefit the club’s mission to support the local community. Leslie Little will be leading the class.
A gym membership is not required for the event. Nautilus can be found at 618 South Madison Street in Whiteville.

Movies on Madison will be returning on Friday, July 10, at 7 p.m. to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences at Whiteville. The next film in the series will be Curious George. This free event is sponsored by the International Paper Foundation.
This fun-filled adventure shows how an inquisitive monkey and a friendly museum tour guide become an important part of each other’s lives. The 2006 movie is rated G and runs for 87 minutes.
Museum doors will open at 7 p.m., and the movie will start upstairs at 8 p.m. Arrive before showtime to let your curious side out with natural science activities on the museum floor.
Please remember that this is a family-friendly event, so no pets, coolers, alcohol, or smoking is permitted. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

The museum is also offering Nature Storytime and Playdates throughout the summer. The programs will be available through August, with Nature Storytime evert Thursday and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and Playdate with Nature at 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays.
Heart of the Wild Equine Rescue will be Cleaning for a Cause to raise money for the horses in their care. When you schedule a house cleaning with the non-profit, your cleaning fee because a tax-deductible donation to the organization. Pricing varies based on the size of your home.

There will be a worship service at Jones Lake State Park. Da Branch church family invites everyone for a special day of worship and fellowship at the Jones Lake State Park’s main building on Sunday, July 12. The day’s activities will begin at 9:00 a.m. with Sunday School.
Following Sunday School, they will celebrate the baptism of several new members if the water depth is sufficient for the service. Morning worship will follow with Pastor Louie Boykin delivering the message.
The deacon and trustee ministries will be providing the main food items for lunch. Members have volunteered to bring additional food products. The park is located at 4117 N.C. Highway 242 North in Elizabethtown NC.
Whiteville Police Department will be participating in the 2026 National Night Out on Aug. 4 from 6-8 p.m. at the station. There will be free food, music, games, giveaways, and lots of family fun. Residents will have the opportunity to meet the local police officers and other emergency response members, gain safety information and resources, and fellowship with neighbors in their community.
National Night Out is an annual event aimed at enhancing community safety and fostering police-community partnerships. It encourages neighborhoods to engage in activities such as block parties, festivals, and safety demonstrations, promoting camaraderie among residents and local law enforcement. Lake Waccamaw residents will be participating in their community wide yard sale on Labor Day, Sept. 7, beginning at 7 a.m. Those who are planning to sell are asked to place a sign or a flag in your yard to let folks know you are open for business.
Shoppers are invited to come out and explore, shop, support the Lake community, and find your next treasure. The fourth annual event will span from Jefferson Road, Flemington, Lake Shore Drive, Canal Cove Road, Waccamaw Shores, and the whole Wooded Acres neighborhood. Glory Tabernacle Church filled up the Finder’s Keeper’s Thrift Store’s food table last week. The church hosted a canned food drive and delivered the items to the shop. The store is known for their compassion and kindness towards charity organizations, and they often give back to the animal shelter, women’s shelters, and pregnancy center.
The food table is located in the store and is a resource for those who may need a little help with meals. Take an item or leave an item for someone in need. Finder’s Keeper’s can be found at 1138 South Madison Street in Whiteville.
