WPD Offers Citizen Connect Portal

Whiteville Police have launched a new way for citizens and businesses to connect with the department.

The Citizen Connect Portal will allow users to find crime statistics, file some reports and submit tips.

“This represents another step forward in our commitment to transparency, innovation and community-oriented policing,” Chief Paul Rockenbach said in a press release.

The portal can be accessed at https://tinyurl.com/WPDPortal. It offers
interactive “Crime heat” maps to show trends in the city, a new submit-a-tip function to allow information to be shared anonymously with the WPD, among other features.

There are also online reporting options for commercial businesses helping reduce the need for officers to respond to routine report calls, thus allowing “our officers to spend more time proactively patrolling neighborhoods, engaging with the community, and responding to priority calls for service,” the release said.

“We encourage everyone to explore the portal and become familiar with the resources now available,” the release said.
